We’re so excited for National Fitness Day, which takes place all day on Wednesday 25th September. This really feels like a pressing time for the nation to get active with some truly worrying studies revealing that inactivity is now sadly becoming a major leading cause of death in the UK.
In-fact the latest major study in the British Medical Journal, published in March this year, now estimates that 70,000 people die every year due to low exercise levels.
At Schools Plus we’re committed to getting the nation active and we do this by opening our country’s incredible schools and giving local communities the chance to use the fantastic facilities there every day of the year across evenings, weekends and school holidays.

Another way we’re committed to help combat this current inactivity crisis is by supporting National Fitness Day! Put simply National Fitness Day encourages the nation to celebrate the fun of fitness and physical activity across the UK.
It’s been touted as the UKs most active day of the year and last year’s edition directly influenced over 4.1m million of us to take part and be active! We’re hoping that figure grows even more this year, and all of us at Schools Plus will be taking back….one of us in a big way!
Tony Lock, Schools Plus Managing Director, has some truly ambitious plans for National Fitness Day. Tony wants to lead by example on the day by taking part in an Eight Hour Walking Work day!

Tony is going to transform his usual desk based daily routine into an active walk around, starting at Ascot racecourse and taking in scenic landmarks such as Windsor Castle and Eton College. We’re very supportive of his plan and as well as offering encouragement from afar, we’ll be covering the best moments from his day across our social channels.
Other ways the Schools Plus staff plan to get involved for National Fitness Day include a roof-top Yoga session for our team at the Customer Contact Centre.
Some of our Venue and Area Management team will be having a walking work day combining local advertising and keeping active throughout portions of the day. Keep an eye out for Lisa, Michelle and Emilia.
Our HR Director, Mike, will use the day to do some more swimming as part of his Aspire Channel Swim, where he will be swimming the entire length of the channel over the course of 12 weeks.
We can’t wait for National Fitness Day to get started. If you’re getting involved let us and the nation know by using the #FitnessDay, #Fitness2Me as well as using #BeActive to celebrate European Week of Sport.
We look forward to seeing everyone that can being out and active with us this Wednesday!
